Exhausting Explorations

A huge bell out in the pleasant grounds
We took a late night flight to Xi’an, and even though we knew we’d be tired we set the alarm to make the most of our limited time there. It didn’t matter however as the young kids in the corridor woke us up before 8am, so after only a few hours of sleep we managed to drag ourselves out of bed.

We checked out as the room wasn’t worth staying in a second night and caught a taxi to another place we’d found online. The driver didn’t really know the location so he just dropped us in the vicinity and it took us quite a long time to finally locate the place as it was in a multistorey building above a small shopping complex and had no outside signs to indicate that it was actually there. We would never have found it but the manager of the complex noticed us repeatedly walking by his office lost, and he called the owner for us and he thankfully came and showed us where we needed to go and checked us in.

Statues inside the museum
The place was actually an apartment and we were glad that we bothered to move even though it had taken the better part of the morning. By the time we’d settled in it was 2pm and we were starving so we set off to find some food, since our new place was on the same road as the Xi’an Museum and the Little Wild Goose Pagoda we headed off in that direction. Just passed the museum we found a restaurant and we were so hungry we ordered three dishes, not really taking not of their size. We realised when they arrived that they were massive and it was the first time in a long time we actually had to leave food on the plates. We heard that was a compliment in China, so we hoped that was correct!

The pagoda we climbed up for the view
Very full we waddled back to the museum and explored the beautiful grounds and nice museum and motivated ourselves to climb up the pagoda which was worth it for the views of the surroundings. The metropolis sprawled out from our central location as far as we could see, which granted wasn’t that far due to the heavy smog.

We were on the hunt for an overdue coffee so we took the metro to the centre of the old town and explored for a while and by late afternoon we decided that we’d substitute coffee for a bubble tea as we really just wanted an excuse to sit down and rest for a bit. The old town was quite charming and we enjoyed walking around and looking in art galleries and at all the street stalls, but once it started getting dark our lack of sleep from the night before caught up with us we decided to head back to our apartment to do some booking and get a good night’s sleep.
