Happily in Hà Nội

Hà Nội Lake  by night
We wanted to sleep in after such a long day traveling the day before, but breakfast was only served until 9.30am, and we’re not ones to miss a free meal - especially as we received a reminder call at 9.15 informing us that breakfast would be finishing soon.

To our surprise it was a full buffet, the first we’d had in Vietnam, so we were glad we’d made it in time. We spent the morning sourcing train tickets to Sapa, beginning with our hotel who guaranteed us that 770K was the best price in town and furthermore that there were only two tickets left so we’d better book straight away. We found cheaper tickets at the first travel agent we tried and she didn’t mention anything about there being only limited seats left. Deciding we had time, we walked to the train station to buy tickets at the source, so to speak, and bought two for only 515K – so much for our hotel only charging 5% commission and being the cheapest in town…

Cool tree lanterns...
We spent the remainder of the day enjoying exploring the streets of Hà Nội, sampling the food, finding new chè places and thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere. We failed miserably in the markets trying to bargain for a new pair of sandles for Dave – it was like they really didn’t want to sell them!

The lake was beautifully lit up once night fell and we walked around the perimeter, watching the locals do their thing in the small parks and the tourists do theirs photographing it all. All in all it was a day exactly like we needed and we decided Hà Nội was a great city.
