Paradise – Day 3

A massive tiger prawn overlooking the beach
Sarah headed out for a run before breakfast, a rare opportunity, while Dave enjoyed a longer sleep in and a dip in the ocean. We were up much earlier than the previous day which was nice as we got to see the locals coming in from their night fishing in their strange round tub-looking boats, it must take a lot of skill to steer them! We decided to have pancakes for breakfast for a change, just to make it feel like a real vacation, and it was a great decision as they were delicious.

We spent the morning again alternating between the beach and the pool, and it was so nice that we decided to do the same all arvo. We’d read that there were fantastic fresh seafood places about 2km along the road so we walked up that way to find some dinner. There were many places to choose from, all showing off their fresh lobsters, crabs, prawns and fish and there wasn’t too much difference in price, or even the name of the place in most cases, so we chose one with a table right on the beach and ordered ourselves a seafood feast: tiger prawns, garlic scallops, fried squid and onions and a vege phở.

Our seafood feast!
The highlight was definitely the scallops, best we’ve tried, and the worst part was when a massive rat ran over Sarah’s foot… and then came back a few times to terrorise us both. That’s what you get with outdoor dining! The view over the ocean was well worth the vermin scampering around, though soon after we’d finished eating we decided sitting around with the rats wasn’t really too enjoyable.

We managed to find an open sales rep on the way back to our hotel and easily sorted out a bus ticket for the next day before enjoying our last night of ‘vacationing’ before hitting the road again.
