We’ve kept track of the places we’ve stayed in South Africa and whether or not we recommend them. We travelled through South Africa in October / November 2011. If you like the information and want to book, we have a affiliation with HostelWorld for some of them.
City | Accommodation | Cost double room (ZAR) | Hotel Description | In a nutshell |
Waterval Bovan | Waterval Bovan Aloes Country Inn (breakfast included) | 440 | Useful location about midway between Johannesburg and Kruger. The accommodation is large self-contained cabin with loads of room and a lovely garden overlooking a small river. The full English breakfast is great also. There is also a bar/restaurant onsite if you need dinner. | Recommend |
Kruger National Park | Camping at Lower Sabie, Satara, Skuskuza and Pretoriuskop | 160 (per campsite) | Excellent camping facilities are available at all camp sites in Kruger. Facilities include showers, toilets, braai's, kitchens with hot plates and power points, sinks and boiling water. | Recommend |
Johannesburg | Terrylin B&B (breakfast included) | 460 | Great B&B near the airport (pick-up available) run by a mother and son. Room is clean and comfortable, the kitchen is open to use and breakfast is good. | Recommend |
Cape Town | Port View Guest house (breakfast included) | 460 | Fantastic hotel which has views over the harbour and ocean. Easy to get to from the airport with the new MyCiti bus service. The rooms are large, clean with a huge bathroom. Most have a balcony as well. Breakfast is massive and excellent. | Highly recommend |
Cape Town Peninsula | Zoete Inval Traveler's Lodge (no breakfast included) | 410 | A great place walking distance from town and the ocean. Kitchen available and there is a lounge where you can relax with games and cable TV etc. | Recommend |
Stellenbosch | iKhaya Stellenbosch Backpackers (no breakfast included) | 370 | Located right in town this hostel is ok for one nights stay. Room was smelly and not very clean and the bathroom was also dirty. The guy running it was very helpful however and gave great recommendations about which wineries to visit. | OK |
